La Gente Famosa y Su Personalidad: Exploration of Personalities from Spanish-Speaking Countries

Introduction

You are aware of a variety of famous people.  When you think of the concept of famous people, chances are, you might think of someone like Leonardo DiCaprio, Neil deGrasse Tyson, President Barack Obama, or Tim Duncan.

Famous people are everywhere.  You may not be aware of famous people from Equatorial Guinea or Uruguay, but they do exist! Simply because you're not aware of their notoriety, doesn't mean they're not famous to others.

You're task  is to discover two famous people from a Spanish-speaking country of your choice and analyze their personalities in SPANISH.  Don't fret, there are famous people everywhere!

Task

Vas a crear un informe (report) de dos páginas escritas a máquina (typed), describiendo dos personas famosas  de un páis hispano. Para cada persona famosa, vas a escribir una página.

You can reference "actions/occupations" of your country.

You can search for a variety of possibly occupations/activities such as:

     writers
     politicians
     military personnel
     painters/artists
     scientists
     inventors
     athletes
     actors
     musicians - singers, composers, etc.

You will need to choose famous people, each with different reasons for being famous.  You can choose a writer and an athlete, a singer and a politician, etc. The choices are yours, just make certain that they are differently famous.  If you're not certain, check with Srta. Veysikh.

In order to construct your paper(s), you must investigate to discover famous people from your country.

The information you must include in your biography report are as follows:

1. Where was this person born?  Make sure they were born in the country you chose!  Moreover, indicate what part of the country their birth location is (southern coast, central plains, capital city, small northern village, etc.)

2. When were they born?  Be sure to include month, day, and year.  If they were born in a specific historical period - especially one that might affect their life -  such as The Golden Age of Spain, The Depression Era, The Industrial Age, etc., be sure and make note of that in your paper too.

3. Describe what it is that makes them famous.  Detail the factors relating to that 'famousness'.   This part should include at least 10  vocabulary words from 4A vocabulary Tell if/when/where they studied.  If they were/are involved with the military and/or politics, describe how they got involved in that aspect of their life.  Be sure to note as many "famous" factors as possible. These include personality characteristics and qualities.  Do not, however, use this as a means of simply filling up paper space.  DO NOT give a lengthy list of awards, honors, records, etc.  Yes, note some, but keep the list from overloading your paper!

4. If this person is still alive, be sure and tell where they are currently living (does not have to still be in your country).  You can give the city or area (San Francisco, The Sahara Desert, etc.) and the country.  If your famous person is dead, be sure and note when and where they died.  If possible, tell how they died - battle, murder, disease, etc.  If they are buried in a special location, be sure and make note of that as well.

5. For the grammatical part, please include 2 uses of the por y para and 3 subjunctive clauses as related to emotion. This could include: (Es una lástima, espero que, ojalá, etc.)

The websites below are just starting points.  Most of the sites have lists of people with their notoriety listed.  After you choose your two people, then your task is to research them, finding out the above referenced material.

Report Format

Your report  must be written in the following format:

You can verify these aspects using the Home tab, located at the top of your Microsoft Word document.

  1. Font: Times New Roman (it looks identical to this font!)

  1. Size: 12 pt.
  2. Spacing:  Double space                                  .

First you must set up your line spacing at 2.

Then you must remember:

DO NOT RETURN (ENTER) WHEN YOU GET TO THE END OF A TYPED LINE!  All you need to do is keep typing.  The computer will automatically return (change to a new line) for you

Your report will be two (2) pages long.  Your third page will be your Works Cited page.  On this page you will list all of your resources.  I am not requiring any particular format for this page.  All you must do is list your references in alphabetical order.  For your internet website references, you must document the entire address.  It is easiest to copy/paste these addresses.

AttnGoogle, Ask, Bing, etc. are not websites.  They are research engines.  Do not list them on your Works Cited page.

For your possible bonus: Make certain that the photo is respectful - something you would easily show your family or your teacher.
