Introduction

I can recognize and identify the different states of matter: solid, liquid and gas.
I can explain why there are different states of matter
I can explain how the states of matter can change; physically or chemically.
Matter makes up everything that is in our universe. Atoms join together to create molecules. Molecules stack together in different ways to create the three different states of matter; solid, liquid, gas.

Our hometown hockey team, the Chicago Blackhawks, have a HUGE problem! The hockey championships are just a few days away and the United Center has NO ICE!
One day it was perfectly frozen ice rink, the next day it was just a big pool of water. Then...POOF...it was gone! Where did it go? What's the matter at the rink?
Our beloved coach, Joel Quenneville, has asked you and your teammates for help! He wants to know what happened to the ice. How was it solid one day, a liquid the next, and gone the next? You know this is a serious matter...no ice, no championship game! You will learn as much as you can about this matter and report back to the coach.
HURRY! You have to figure this matter out before the first BIG game!
Task
We better get started on our investigation!
You and your Science teammates will need to find as much information as you can about the three states of matter.
You will learn some songs about matter, watch some videos about matter and read some cool poems, too.
Once you complete all the tasks, you will be ready to report back to Coach Quenville what happened to the ice at the United Center.
Let's get started right away!
