Exploring Space for Travel

Introduction

We have been approved to explore the 7 planets not including Earth and the Dwarf planet Pluto to see about opening up for travel.  You and your fellow crew members will gather information about your planet and report back to earth about your findings. But before you can leave you must apply for a passport to space. Once you have been approved and reached your destination planet or dwarf planet you will need to check in with Mission Control daily with a 60 second podcast recapping all you explored and learned that day. Upon your return to planet earth you will begin on creating advertisement for travel to your planet. Enjoy and be safe.

Task

Your task is to work with your fellow crew members to explore different websites and gather as much information as possible about your planet. Check in with Mission Control Center and be prepared to create travel advertisement and present your finding and creation.

Process

Day 1: Before you can begin your travel to space you must apply for a passport to space. You will find the application form on google classroom. This application must include the members of your crew (2-3 students), the planet you intend to travel to, the name of your mission, as well as a logo or symbol. Get creative and have fun. The crew must also create a list of questions you hope your mission will answer.

Day 2-6: Once your space application has been returned with a signature you are ready for blast off. Once you have reached your destination begin your exploring immediately. You and your fellow crew members will need to collect scientific information and interesting facts about your planets.

The following is the required information that needs to be recorded:

    1. Namesake (Who is your planet named after?)
    2. Distance from the Sun (How many kilometers?)
    3. Diameter (What is the distance across is your planet?)
    4. Period of revolution (How long is one year on your planet in Earth years?)
    5. Rotation period (One day on your planet equals how many hours/days on Earth?)
    6. Moons (How many? What are their names?)
    7. Atmosphere (What gases are in the atmosphere?)
    8. Temperature (How hot or cold is it?)
    9. Composition (What is your planet made of?)
    10. How much do you weigh on your planet?
    11. How old are you on your planet?

You also need to answer the questions you and your fellow crew members came up with.

Remember to report back to Mission Control daily with your podcast. Record a 60 second podcast using ipadio and upload to the mission control twitter page. Let us know your findings for the day and what you hope to discover tomorrow. Check out and respond to other podcast from missions to other planets.

Day 7-10 Upon your return you now need to advertise that you are opening up your planet for travel. How are you going to get people to want to travel there? Choose from the list of advertisement options or get permission about another from Mission Control. Make sure your advertisement is not only creative, but also persuasive and informative.

Day 10 or 11: Once you have a demo of your advertisement piece you will share and debrief mission control and crew members of other missions.
