Candy Homes Project

  • Group project where students will evaluate different candies, provided by their teacher, with their group and identify which candies will create the best home or structure. Be creative! 
Process

Steps 

  1. Students will explore and sort different kinds of candies based on their state of matter (liquid, solid, or gas)
  2. They will evaluate how each candy's properties of matter can be altered into another. 
  3. They will determine which candies will build a successful home or structure. 
  4. They will create a model using their candies and present their creation to the class. 
  5. While presenting they will explain how they created their house and why they used those specific candies. 
  6. Evaluation of group members (did everyone participate?)

Roles (4 students per Group) 

  • All students will participate in the choosing of the candies. 
  • 3 students will build 
  • 1 will write the analysis on the project and explain the project during the presentation
  • All will complete evaluation

Conclusion

To conclude, this webquest will allow kids to understand the properties of matter (solids, liquids, and gases) with a fun activity to stimulate their brains and make them excited to learn! The activity allows kids to get creative and unique with their builds but also requires them to provide an analysis on what they learned and why they used certain properties to create their house.
