Protecting the Everglades

Introduction

The Everglades are one of the most interesting and unusual places in the world.  Sadly it took a long time for humans to recognize the value of the Everglades.  Early Florida settlers treated the Everglades as a nuissance-a dangerous swamp that had to be controlled and tamed.  Later, some industries used the Everglades to expand their farmland.  Now conservation efforts are attempting to undo the damage of the twentieth century.
