American History Harvest Project

Introduction

We will be investigating, collecting and digitizing local Moline history. Each student will be assigned to a specific topic of local history and will be completing research and collecting local histories to present to a group during our history harvest.

Groups and subjects:

1.Industry and Technology:  Deere, Sears, Inventions, and the Lumber/Mill industry

2.Transportation:   Rivers, dams, bridges, railroads, highways, etc.

3.Famous Moliners:  Riverside Cemetery, Arsenal, etc.

4.Immigration or Migration:  Belgian Center (Old Towne), German, Floreciente, etc.

5.New Deal:  CCC, WPA projects, etc.

6.War/Arsenal:  POW, Weapons, Veterans, Wars, etc.

7.Pop Culture/Sports and Recreation:  Wharton, Browning, Thorpe, Rolle Bolle, etc.

8.Miscellaneous:  Famous visitors to the QCA – Lindbergh, Pershing, Lewis, Lee, etc.

Task
  • Each group member must complete a contract outlining his or her duties and action plan.
  • All groups must include taped interviews or oral histories.
  • Each member must research the topic Use the MHS Media Center Pathfinder, the Internet, the Historical Societies, Augustana library, and local history, etc.Each group must create digital artifacts or primary resources.
  • Each group will present the materials during the harvest.
