PE Testing on Strength and Endurance

Introduction

Students will be given a series of statements and pictures that relate to the importance of muscular strength and endurance. The pictures will show correct forms of performing a push-up and sit-up. The statements will tell the students how strength and endurance is benefical to them. The students will be asked true or false questions about the pictures and statements, with the teacher and students going over the correct answers together.











Task

Students will be able to understand the importance of muscular strength and endurance.

Students will be able to formulate a plan of action to increase their own muscular strength and endurance.

Students will be prepared for the fitness test.

Students will be able to understand and recognize basic words and terms used in relation to muscular strength and endurance.

Process

1. After the students have been presented with the pictures and statements, they will be instructed to take out their text. As we read through the section the students will highlight any words or phrases they don't understand.

2. We will go over any words or phrases that the students don't understand. They will be given the definitions and will be asked to create note cards for the vocabulary words.

3. On the other side of the note cards, students will be asked to write a sentence using the vocabulary words.

4. There will be a group discussion on the benefits of muscular strength and endurance and activities to increase their strength and endurance.

5. Students will participate in push-ups and sit-ups and record their scores on their fitness sheet.

6. Students will write a journal entry at the end of the lesson. They will reflect on the lesson and how well they did on their push-ups and sit-ups by comparing their results with the fitness standards.

7. To finish up they will write a true/false statement for later discussion. 

Evaluation

1. Students participation in class discussion.  5

2. Note cards are completed: vocabulary and sentences.  5

3. Student journals; reflection, activities, and vocabulary.  10

Conclusion

Students will use the informal assessment of recording their scores on their fitness testing sheet and comparing their scores to what is expected based on the California Fitness Standards. Females sit-ups 18-35 repetitions, push-ups 7-15. Male sit-ups 24-47, push-ups 14-35.
