Introduction

You will be using the following Webquest to get yourself acquainted with Cells and how they work!

Task

Remember to:

  1. Glue the Cell Diagram into your Notebook

  2. Read through all of the directions

  3. Write the questions into your Notebook

  4. Use links to complete Cell Diagram and Answer Questions

  5. Create your Children's Book and Trading Cards!

Process

Activity 1: What do the organelles do?

Link

1. What is an organelle?

2. What do ribosomes do?

3. What does the Golgi apparatus (or Golgi bodies) do?

4. What is the function of the mitochondria?

5. What does the nuclear membrane do?

6. What is the function of the nucleus?

7. What is the cell Membrane?

Activity 2: Where can I find them?

1. What is the difference between smooth and rough endoplasmic reticulum (ER)?

2. Where is the nucleus found?

3. What is the function of a lysosome?

4. What makes plant cells green?

5. What does a vacuole do?

6. What is the purpose of the cell wall? What type of cell is it found in?

7. What is a chloroplast?

Activity 3: Trading Cards

Animal Cell

Plant Cell

Organelle Pictures

1. You will be making a trading card for each organelle

2. Use 1/6 a piece of construction paper for each trading  card

3. On one side, draw a picture of the organelle

4. On the other side, answer the following questions

Activity 4: Children's Book

Link

1. You will be writing a Children's Book about Plant and Animal Cells

2. Review the Check List to make sure that you get full credit

3. Fold a piece white paper in half and use each side as one page of your book.

4. Choose one of the two Story Options:

a. The story can be non-fiction (you are explaining the cell).

  • You can explain the cell and have a page explaining the organelle.

  • It can be a “travel guide,” explaining what you could see if you traveled through a cell.

b. The story can be fiction.

  • The organelle can be the storyteller.

  • Someone could get stuck in a cell and, while trying to get out, talk to the organelles to find out what they do.
