Introduction
By now you should know that a chemical property is the ability of a substance to combine with or change into one or more new substances. Now that you know about chemical properties, you can identify what type of chemical properties happen in an environment. In this case, you'll learn about chemical properties in two types of biomes: taigas and savannas.
Task
After viewing this Webquest, you should be able to...
- Identify some chemical properties in taigas
- Identify some chemical properties in savannas
Process
Part I.
This video will explain the chemical properties in general just for a reveiw. video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZCdMjcamks
Part II.
After refreshing your memory, just to make sure of you understand chemical and physical properties, take this quiz.

Part III.
Visit the site http://www.blueplanetbiomes.org/ to learn about the taiga and savanna. After reading this article, answer these questions.
1. In the summer, what is the temperature in a taiga?
2. Why do plants in a savanna have thick bark?
3.In the savanna, when warm air collides with cool air to create rain, is this a chemical property? Why or why not?
4. Why do evergreens in a taiga keep their needles all year long?
5. In a taiga, is there a dry season? If so, would this cause wild fires? Why or why not?
Part IV.
Based on what you know about chemical properties and what you have read about taigas and savannas, name two chemical properties of these two biomes. List one example found in either a taiga or a savanna for each chemical property you named.
