History of the Aztec Empire

Today we're going to be talking about the differnt regions of the Aztec Empire. Now, lets brainstorm to see what do you know already about the empire. Have all the students look at the map very carefully. Guid them to examine the map in their textbooks on pages 212-213.

Task

Built chinampas , to produce crops, it was a form of irrigation    

Your task are to know about the differnt aspects that went on during the time periode. You will be place into groups of four, and each group will research about what did the Aztecs do to build such an Empire. Things such as their religion, technology, creativites, and teachings. Each group member will have a differnt task. One of the groub members will write down the imformation, the second member will research the information, the third member will present the information by speaking to the class, and the fourth member must keep track of how long they have to speak. The time limit for each group are no longer then three minutes.

Process

1.The teacher will divide the class into four groups.  The students will be given a list of websites to visit and get information.

2.The groups will be given note paper, project poster,pencils, and highlighters.

3. Each group will receive a one computer to research their information. The teacher will set a timer for 30 minutes for researching.

4.Groups will work together to help find the right facts for each topic that were given.

5.The next day, the different groups will present their projects to the class. Once the presentation is going on, the other groups must write down the important facts that are being told.

Evaluation

The students will  work cooperatively to complete a clear group presentation.  They will identify and answers the assigned questions.  Students should received a score of 80% to be considered proficent on this assessement.

Conclusion

After completeing the Webquest, the students will understand the importance and history of the once mighty empire of the Aztecs. They will understand of how it was developed, how long it reigned, and what led them to their downfall.
