Hello First Grade class, We are thinking about getting a class pet. First, we need to decide what kind of pet would live best in the classroom. Second, we need to know how to take care of our new friend. I need you to become pet detectives and research pets, and how to care for them.
The task at hand is to research an animal to help choose for our class pet. After having chosen one of the animals, you must research them and look into how to keep them safe and cared for.
First, students will be broken up into groups of two or three.
Second, your group must choose one of the following animals:
Third, after choosing an animal, we will go to the computer lab, and each child will have a list of questions, which should be split up between the group, and they should look for the answers on. They will then research the questions based on there animal. The questions are as followed:
Fourth, at the begining of next class the groups will one at a time get up and explain why or why not there animal would make a good class pet.
Children will pass in the answers to there questions at the begining of next class, so they can have time to do more research at home with the parents. The children will be evaluated on there answers as a group, and on how well they explain to the class as a group wether or not their animal would make a good class pet or not and why.
