Introduction
This webquest is intended to give the student an understanding of adjectives and how they can be used in an effective manner to describe nouns. In this webquest students will visit websites to get information on different adjectives and how they are used.
Task
You and your group are going to pretend you work for an advertising agency. You all have been assigned a job to make a billboard for Los Angeles, California. You want to make L.A. seem like it is the most perfect place to vacation. You will use what you learn about adjectives in this lesson to help you describe L.A. on this billboard (poster board).
Process
Step 1:
Everyone will need to agree on a group job. There are 4 different jobs.
- Reader/Researcher - This person will find and read the information needed to make this billboard to the group.
- Listener/Writer - This person will listen and write down the important information out of what the reader/researcher finds.
- Sketch Artist - This person needs to be the most creative one in the group. They will be responsible for taking the information and putting it into a rough draft of what the billboard should look like
- Presenter - The presenter will be the person who gets in front of the class and presents your group's billboard.
Step 2.
Everyone will click the link below and watch the video about adjectives. The listener/writer will need to write down important information from this video.
link 1:
Your group should have a clear understanding of what an adjective is. Now we will move on to step 2
Step 2:
We will now gather information on Los Angeles, California. You will need to know what is so great about California and what it has to offer for a vacation. I will give you the link to L.A's website. The reader/researcher should search through this information and pick out what could be good to know for the billboard. Things such as places to eat, beaches, neat places to visit, etc. (This should be a family friendly billboard).
Step 3:
Now your group should have notes taken on adjectives and Los Angeles.
- Everyone will review the notes taken and come up with adjectives that describes Los Angeles in good way. The reader/researcher may use google to aid in coming up with adjectives. TRY to be creative and come with your own though.
- The sketch artist will begin on a rough draft on a sheet of paper. Draw pictures and come up with a catchy phrase using elaborate adjectives. Remember that even the small thing matter such as: word size, color, details. The whole purpose of this lesson is to teach you how to properly use an adjective, so make sure you use them correctly! Once the rough draft is done, it need to be reviewed by all other members of the group. Take this time to suggest what to add or take away from the billboard. Speak your opinions and work as a group!
- Once you have completed everything and agreed on a design as a group, you will come and get your poster board from your teacher. The whole group needs to work on designing the "billboard". You will be reviewed by your group on how much effort you put in, so be active in participation!
- After everyone has finished designing and perfecting their "billboard", the presenter from each group will get up and present the billboard. They will explain why your group used the words and pictures to describe Los Angeles.
