Career Exploration

Introduction

This webquest will give you the opportunity to research and discover careers that may interest you. 

As you work through the webquest, you will select a couple of careers that you are interested in pursuing and determine what it will take for you to reach your career goals.

Task

Complete the "Career Exploration" worksheet as you work through the webquest.

The "Career Exploration" worksheet is due THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 19.

Process

Part 1: Initial Thoughts

Complete this section of your worksheet before doing any research. 

List 3 careers that interest you and explain why you think they are a good fit for you. 

Part 2: Personality Type

Go to http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/jtypes2.asp and take the personality/aptitude test. TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY!!! We want accurate results!

When you are finished with your test, you will be given a 4-letter personality type. Record those 4 letters in the boxes on the left on your worksheet. Then say what each letter stands for in the longer box on the right. 

On your results page, scroll down until you see the tab labeled "Self-Awareness and Personal Growth." Click this link and read about your personality type. Answered the questions on your worksheet about your personality type. 

Part 3: Career Exploration

Go to: http://cms.bsu.edu/about/administrativeoffices/careercenter/explore/assessment/typefocus/whatpersonality

Find your 4-letter personality type and click on the link. This will bring you to a page with a list of careers that are a good fit for your personality type. Read through the list and click on the link for any that you are interested in. After reading through some, choose your top 5 career options from this list and list them on your worksheet. Using the links provided on this site, complete the "Career Profiles Worksheet."

Part 4: Education/Training Exploration

Go to https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/college-search?navid=gh-cs.

  • If you already know what colleges you are interested in attending, use the search bar on the site to find a specific school.
  • If you are not sure what college you might want to attend or are interested in exploring some other options, use the filters on the left side of the webpage. You can filter based on test scores, majors, athletics, location, and more!
  • Explore the website and different colleges!
  • Choose at least 5 colleges that you are interested in to complete the chart.

MILITARY PLANNING WORKSHEET

If you are interested in joining a branch of the military after high school, go to http://www.military.com/join-armed-forces and explore the website to complete the worksheet. 

**If you do not want to pursue further education or military service, describe on a separate sheet of paper, in DETAIL, your plans following graduation and how they will contribute to your career goals.
