Introduction
Have you ever noticed graceful flocks of geese flying in a “V” formation through the sky? Were you curious about where they were going or how long their trip would take? Many animals all over the world are travelers. They don’t spend all of their lives in the same place. In this Web-Quest, you will learn not only which animals are travelers, but why they travel and where they go. You will also learn what factors, if any, help decide the success of their journey.
Task
You and your group will be working together to become experts on specific migrating animals. Ms. Wyatt will assign your group this animal.
You will be visiting the websites below to learn about your migrating animal and discover why they travel. When you find out the answers you will be making a trading card. Get a 5x8 card for your trading card. On one side write a paragraph about the animal you have been assigned. Included in your paragraph should be what is migration and why the migrating animal needs to do it. Then illustrate a picture of your migrating animal on the other side. Now you have a card to share with your classmates. Click on the websites in the process section to find out the information needed to make your trading card. USE YOUR BEST HANDWRITING TO MAKE THE TRADING CARD.
Challenge: You will work with one or two partners. Each group will be assigned a different migrating animal. Each group will be responsible for three main tasks.
- Research your group's migrating animal to find out why they migrate. Find out where your group’s migrating animal travels and add this to your research. Each group will be given a map of the world to mark their animal's route.
- Use the information gathered to design a migrating animal trading card.
- Learn about the factors that help decide the success of their trip. Write a fictional story telling about the trip of your animal. Write this on a Google Doc and share it with Ms. Wyatt at ewyatt@d6edu.org
