Casey at the Bat Mood and Tone

Introduction

After hearing the video Casey at the Bat on youtube spoken by James Earl Jones, students will describe the mood and tone of the poem with a partner.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xWtysMlrcA  

After hearing the version of Casey at the Bat by Lionel Bareymore, students will describe the mood and tone of the poem with a partner.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsxmJzOYMYY

Lastly, students will listen to the cartoon version of Casey at the Bat.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xWtysMlrcA

Task

1.  Students will create a Venn Diagram to Compare and Contrast the three different versions of Casey at the Bat using the vocabulary words

2.  Students will work in pairs to determine if the feeling words are negative, positive, or neutral.

3.  Students will create a person diagram using tone and mood words.

4. Students will read the poem "Casey at the Bat" and create a powerpoint or song that explicity provides the audience a sense of mood and tone
