FOOD CHAIN MATH

Introduction

 

 

 

ABC World News has just annouced that there are missing animals all over our worlds habitats.  We have many concerned viewers who are looking for answers to this problem.  You and your fellow reporters have been assigned to investiage and bring answers to the public.

Task

 

 

 

 

You and your fellow reprters have been assigned the task to create a powerpoint, which will explain to the viewers what a food chain is.  Each reporter should also create 2 word problems (1 multiplication and 1 division) explaining how organisms are eaten and their part in the the food chain.

Process

Here goes your first task, which should air in tonights 10:00 news. Your group will create a powerpoint explaining what a food chain is, but make sure there is lots of visuals, because a lot of the worried viewers are children.  First you will click on the following interactive  link to learn more about food chains.

Make sure to write down notes about key vocabulary and important information, which will be need to create your powerpoint.

Your second task is expected to air on tomorrows 5:00 news.. so get to work! This task is for your group to research about the different habitats in the world, by clicking on the followin site:

After viewing this website, each member of your group will choose a habitat and create 2 word problems realted to the organisms found in that area.

 

Evaluation

The following rubric must be met in order to get full credit:

RUBRIC for powerpoint:

1. Powerpoint must include the following:

-Definition of food chain

-Key vocabulary ex: producers, consumers)

-Visuals

-Example of at least two food chains

 

RUBRIC for word problems:

World problems should include the following:

-Be legible

-Written on white sheet of paper

-Should explain which organism is eaten by another organism.

-Each group member should create 2 word problems

Conclusion

After completeing this webquest students will have reviewed food chains and practiced their multiplication and division math skills.
