Discovering Composers

Introduction

Some of the greatest music ever written is hundreds of years old. Can you believe that? Symphonies and orchestras all over the world still perform music written by these amazing composers. Three of the most well known and best loved composers are Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. You may not know it, but you have heard music from these great composers. Their music is used in television shows, cartoons, movies, and video games.

The purpose of this WebQuest is to introduce you to these three composers. You will learn a little about their lives as well as some of the music they have written. You will also get a chance to experience their music by listening to it being performed.

Task

Your job is to research each of the three most famous composers (Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven) and create a short video using an iPad explaining which composer is your favorite, something you learned about that composer, and a composition of theirs that you enjoy and why.

Process

Here is what you need to do to complete your task.

1) Go through each of the following composers and click on the links provided underneath their names.

2) After you have read the information, watched the vidoes, and listened to some musical examples, you will need to decide which of the three composers you like the best.

3) Using a classroom iPad, record a short video explaining which composer you like the best, name something you learned about that composer, and a favorite piece they wrote and why you like it.
