Suicide: What can we do to stop this epidemic among teenagers.

Introduction

You have been asked as your grade level captain to think of things you could do to prevent children your age from having thoughts of suicide. You have been given the task of reporting any discussions or suspicion of depressed classmates who are having suicidal ideations. During the last few years, suicide among teenagers have increased. You are responsible for creating a presentation outlining your ideas and plans on how to educate your classmates on suicide, and convince them to seek help if they are or have entertained the idea at some point in their lives.

Task

You will pretend your audience has no clue what suicide is. You will present your information as though this is their first time ever hearing about suicide. Your focus for your presentation will include the following information:

  • What is suicide?
  • How do I know if someone is thinking about suicide?
  • How to help someone who is thinking about suicide?
  • How to overcome suicide among teenagers
Process

Process Part I

  • The first thing you need to do, before everything else, is define suicide. Read the article and come up with an in-depth definition of suicide.
  • After you have read the article and can come up with a clear, concise, in-depth definition of suicide, you are going to include a two-column list of ideas to be used in your presentation.
  1. The left column will list four ways to detect someone who you suspect may be suicidal.
  2. The right column will list four things that usually lead to suicidal thoughts or committing suicide.

Process Part II

  • The next thing you will do is present facts to support your presentation. Find information that gives statistics on the number of teenagers dying from committting suicide in your age group. Also, find any organizations or behavioral management facilities in each state where people can get help or speak to someone about what they are feeling.
  • Finally, provide your audience with steps they can take to overcome suicide. You can give your own tips or advice about suicide using the information provided on the links given.
Evaluation
  • You will be evaluated on the inclusion of all required features into your presentation.
  • You must have a minimum of two graphics incorporated into your presentation that is directly related to the information you are presenting.
  • Proofread your presentation for spelling and grammatical errors.
  • Use the outline given to ensure you completed each step.
Conclusion

You are one step closer to becoming an advocate for suicide prevention among your classmates. Now that you are an expert on suicide and have made everyone aware of suicide, the warning signs of suicide, and suicide prevention, consider the questions below:

  • How can I be an outlet to someone who is thinking about suicide?
  • How can school personnel assist someone who needs to talk about suicide or need to report suspicion of suicide?
  • How to get parents and the community involved?
