Ecosystem Armageddon!

Introduction

I address you tonight, not as the President of the United States, not as the leader of a country, but as a citizen of humanity...

We are faced with the very grievous of challenges, the bible calls this day ARMAGEDDON (the end of all things).

And yet, for the first time in the history of the planet, the species has the technology to prevent its own extinction.

All you praying with us need to know, that everything that can be done to prevent this disaster is being called into service.

The human thirst for excellence, knowledge, every step up the ladder of science, every adventurous reach into space, all of our combined modern technologies and imaginations, even the wars that we fought, have provided us the tools to wage this terrible battle.

Though all the chaos that is our history, through all of the wrongs and the discords, through all the pain and the suffering through all of our times,

there's one thing that has merged our souls, and elevated our species above our origins, and that is our courage.....

We are calling on you the students of today and leaders of the future, to provide us with the information we need to save our planet from the 6th Mass Extinction Event.

We are calling on you to complete this task for us, to find out all you can about our ecosystems, so we can save our planet from the history of mankind and its own mistakes!!

Task

You are the future of this planet and its time you had a voice.

Those before you have brought the planet to its knees by not being worried
about our planets delicate ecosystems. Now the planet is out of balance and its
your job to inform them of why are ecosystems are important.

In this lesson you are to complete 2 tasks:

#1 research into what ecosystems are and answers the questions provided to you
on a WORD document.

#2 In the second part of the lesson you are to produce an informational poster
on an animal or plant that has become extinct or is under threat of extinction
because of the impact humans have had on the habitats and ecosystems.

Process

Task #1: answer the following questions using the resources provided and resources you find from google..

1. What is an ecosystem (definition)?

2. 2 different types of ecosystems

3. What is a habitat (definition)?

4. At least 2 components that make up an ecosystem?

5. 4 components of the hydrological cycle

6. 2 examples of food chains (you could think of them if you really tried)

7. What is photosynthesis (definition) or diagram?

8. 2x photo's of ecocide

Task #2: You are to produce an informational poster on an extinct or under
threat plant or animal.

You can produce this on publisher, 1x PowerPoint slide or a word document.

You need to include:

-1x picture of the animal or plant.

-information on what caused its extinction or where the threat is coming from (humans most likely)

-Where its habitat or ecosystem is located

-what can be done to save it

That's 4 things to put on your poster.

100 or so words with a few pictures,
diagrams and a title.

(also put your name on it)

Evaluation

You will be have to produce a printed poster (black and white is fine) and your 1-2 page word document.

Both are to be handed up before you leave with your name on them.

Conclusion

By the end of the lesson you will have a basic knowledge of ecosystems and you will have a deeper understanding of a particular endangered or extinct animal or plant species.
