I would just like to say that I encourage all young people and people of all ages to reach for the stars and never give up on yourself.Think positively and believe in yourself and your talents.
Introduction
This story is about Timothy,an 8 year old 3rd grader, who will be for the first time this summer taking a train all by himself to see his Gramma.Timothy has taken many car trips with his parent's ,and it takes a very long time to get there. He is very nervous about the train and all of the instructions that he must remember;even though he knows a grown-up is near ,he feels he must do it on his own. His mother is a great help to him in helping him make orderly lists and think of many new adventures.
Task
This story helps to show the cognitive development that a child of between 7-8 begins to learn. Timothy must first think in logical terms ,in the context that he knows of the world, and apply what he knows to the real life situation.
Process
The process by which he does this is fairly common for that age group. Adultlike logic appears but is limited to what the child already knows. He first assess the situation and creates an orderly and logical list for the things in which he must do,i.e stay in correct seat, listen for the stops and not talking to strangers. When he has those down pat he then begins to think of scenerios in which different things could happen along the way.He must think in a logical manner to help with the fear he feels about the ride. He then begins to get excited thinking of all of the fun and educational things that his Gramma will take him to do,like the zoo and museam. He feels like he can be seperated from his parents for the trip now that he feels more in control.
Evaluation
This story is about the process of cognitive development. When Timothy must reason out and come up with his own personal set of guidelines to follow he was experiencing what is known as assilimation and accomadation. Both of these process are used throughout our lives as we learn how to deal with increasingly more complex subject matter.
Conclusion
In this concrete operational stage Timothy has shown that he computes logically and that he grasps hypothetical concepts. He is able to understand things from different viewpoints and see that if his own mother is not nervous or scared then he has very little reason to be.He remembers so much more now and so it is possible for him to go alone this year when just last year it wouldn't have been.
Credits
I created the story of Timothy Takes The Train myself and it is currently being considered for publishing. I would like to thank Ms.Nelson for teaching us so well this year and helping us to learn about psycology.
