Dental Hygiene

Introduction

As a first year dental hygiene student in your second semester, you are most definitely wondering how you will ever remember everything that you are "expected" to remember. This learning exercise will help you by applying real world information to what you have learned in school thus far. You can use this tool even after you have become a registered dental hygienist to further your continuing education in dentistry.

Task

Since the first semester, you have found that your Wilkins book has become your "go to" for everything dental hygiene. Therefore, we will look at certain sections in Wilkins and you will be expected to complete certain tasks depending on the content of the sections. Once you have completed each task, reflect on the content and think of the implications for you as a dental hygienist treating patients. A blog is recommended for you to keep track of your reflections. In addition, you should ask instructors two questions and keep the questions and answers in an online journal.  Beginning with Section I, a PowerPoint presentation will be required for the ADPIE process. Section II deals with the Preparation for Dental Hygiene Practice. Exposure control is of paramount importance. As such, a video will be required to discuss and demonstrate proper handwashing and procedures for use of gloves.

Process

After reading Sections I and II of Clinical Practice of the Dental Hygienist (Wilkins, 2013), you will be able to research more information as found below correlating to both sections.
