Class are you ready to learn addition and subtraction at Disney world with Mickey and Friends inside Magic Kingdom? 

 

Good morning class we have a busy day ahead of us when we enter the classroom quickly put away your backpacks and line up with Ms. Martinez in the front of the class so we can make our way to the speed rail that will take us inside to Magic Kingdom. Class this is going to be an exciting day and with the help of the wonderful Cast and Characters at Disney we will learn addition and subtraction. Now let's get ready for a day of fun.

Task

As students are walking through the park they will encounter mathematical stations that will help them earn points towards the grand prize. When they board a ride the operator will ask them to answer one math problem and if they get it correct the ride will start and if they want it to go faster they can answer two math problems inside the ride car to have the ride go faster and longer. They will have their tablet with mickey ears to help them figure out the solution. 

  • Purpose: The purpose of the lesson is for students to be able to learn addition and subtraction which is the foundation of math and will also help students gain a better concept with numbers.
  • Objectives: Students will be able to add and subtract numbers up to ten with Mickey Mouse and friends at the Magic Kingdom  Park. 
  • Description: Students have just arrived at Magic Kingdom  and have gotten their magic bands all throughout the park are addition and subtraction problems. Once the students have boarded the ride students will encounter mathematical stations featuring addition and subtraction problems. Each problem they get correct will earn them a point and the two students with the most points will get the opportunity to ride with Mickey Mouse and Friends in the night parade.

Process

Ms. Martinez Mouseketeer's welcome to the happiest place on earth this is where we will learn addition and subtraction with help from none other Mickey Mouse. As an extra surprise he has also bought along his friends and cast mates where they will be helping us in our lesson. First we will ride the speed rail where it will take us to Magic Kingdom where we will receive our wrist bands once we have entered I will then go over the lesson infant of the Disney princess castle where casemates will assist me showing you how to use the Mickey ears to help you find the answer and also review how to count up to ten. Once our mini lesson is over we will then break up into our chaperone groups to go around the park. Also remember students for you to board the ride or even play games you will have to answer questions at the mathematical stations and at the ride.

  • Using their fingers and mickey heads to help them accomplish each problem.  
  • Problem solving skills. 
  • Most importantly addition and subtraction 
  • Working as a team to solve each math problem. 
  • They will also have the help of visual aids throughout the park. 
  1. Explain what the students will be doing to learn the lesson: Students will have to work through the mathematical stations for them to gain access to the ride. For example, for students to ride the Haunted Mansion ride they will need to answer two addition problems to enter the line and two subtraction problems to start the ride. If they want to earn bonus points, then they will need to answer the glowing problems floating in the ride car. 
  2. What new tool will you be using and how: The tool I would use would be incorporating interactive parts into my lesson using a tablet to help them as they make their way around magic Kingdom.

Evaluation

For students assessment of the lesson I would monitor their progress throughout the day on my tablet because in the magic band will be a tracker that will show their progress.once the course of  activities  has finished ill go over the report to see who is an ace and who will need extra help with addition and subtraction. For the students who need extra help with addition and subtraction will come with me during station time and we will go over extra problems. For the last assessment I would add in an exit ticket that has four problems and students will answer them and if they all succeed they will get an extra few minutes around Magic Kingdom if not we will will go over and continue reviewing.

Conclusion

Class thank you for participating now its time for the night parade the two students who lead the class will stand in front and the rest of us will follow along with out glow sticks. Class i'm so proud of you all and also to see that y'all were able to see the fun in learning addition and subtraction. Now let's thank the cast mates and Mickey Mouse and friends and before we start our parade let's review these key concepts. 

  • To add is to give more like when Winnie the Poh is constantly getting more  honey 
  • To subtract is to take away like when Minnie is asking us to help her give the right amount of bows to Daisy Duck 
  • Use your fingers to count to ten or our mickey ears that are displayed on our number line to go forward is to add to go back is to subtract.
