The Task

During your cadetship you will learn how to research, interview, write reports and explore the different ways of presenting information.

PHASE 1 - RESEARCH

The first phase of your training is learning to research.

In order for you to complete the first phase of training you will need to complete some activities. These activities will require you to investigate different subjects and report your findings.

As you sort through the information try and find information that will help us to answer the question;

Why do we have a holiday on ANZAC day?

Research is an important part of reporting. When we research we discover facts and opinions and can see that there is more than one way of looking           at something. This is called a perspective. As a reporter it is important that you learn to identify different persectives about the same event.  For example, the experiences of a soldier who went to war would be very different to the experiences of their families left at home. This would give them a different perspective about the war. As well as looking at different perspectives research also provides us with information and knowledge about things.

Following is a list of different activities. Each activity will require you to complete some type of research. Your task is to complete 3 activities  of your choice. Click on the images below for details of each activity.

  1. Create               a timeline of World War 1
  2. Who               was the man and the Donkey?
  3. A               nurse's story
  4. Landing               at Gallipoli
  5. The               ANZAC day ceremony
  6. Boys               at War
  7. Women               at home
  8. The band played           Walzing Matilda
  9. Photos               of War

PHASE 2 - INTERVIEWS

The second phase of your training is learning interview techniques. You will start by investigating your family's experiences of war and will then interview one family member, perhaps a grand parent or older relative.  You can record the interview in any way you choose.  For example you might have your prepared questions and make notes on the answers or you may prefer to record the interview to help you with your report.

Interview           1

You might not think that World War 1 affected you personally however your great grandparents were alive then and whether they went to war or stayed  at home they would have been affected by it. World War 1 was not the only war that Australians have been involved in and maybe members of your family have been affected by other wars. With this in mind your           next task is to interview members of your family and complete the           FAMILY CIRCLE.

PHASE 3 - REPORTING

For the Final phase of your cadetship you will be assigned a parnter.  Working in PairsResearch a veteran/civilian/animal from Australia's military history (past or present) and create a presentation for a museum display.  You may negotiate how to present it; some suggestions include a written biography, diary entries, powerpoint, artwork or a dramatic performance.

You will present this to the class and panel of judges.
