Free Speech and the History of Russia

Introduction

Free speech is an important  freedom in a democratic political system. However, during the Cold War the Soviet Union went to great lengths to limite the freedom of expression. Today, even though Russia is no longer communist, repression of free speech still exists.

 

Task

You are to write an essay comparing Soviet Leader Joseph Stalin's limits on free speech to Russia's Vladimir Putin's limits on free speech.
