Poetry is a form of literature that uses aesthetic and rhythmic qualities of language
Poetry uses forms and conventions to suggest differential interpretation to words, or to evoke emotive responses. It uses ambiguity, symbolism, irony and other stylistic elements of poetic diction. Figures of speech create a resonance between otherwise disparate images—a layering of meanings, forming connections previously not perceived. Kindred forms of resonance may exist, between individualverses, in their patterns of rhyme or rhythm.

Simply, poetry is a story that is so good, it doesn't need complete sentences.
But can you really analyze and understand the poems the author wrote? His feelings or what does he want to express to the person or to the one he want to address it to?
1. Find your buddy or choose someone to work with or you can work alone
2. You will read 3 different poems.
3. Pick one of the three poems that you want to make an analysis by answering these questions:
What does the title tell you about the poem's subject, tone, and genre?
What is the poem's basic situation?
What is the author's attitude toward his or her subject?
What is the author trying to say?
Who is the speaker addressing?
Does the poem follow a narrative?
How is the poem physically organized--it is one long poem, or does it have stanzas or separate lines?
Determine the rhyme scheme of the poem.
What is the theme or goal of the poem?
4. Ready?
1. Read these 3 poems
1st Poem: A MILLION THANKS
Now that I'm here standing
A million thanks to you I'm saying
Mama and Papa I know you gave all the rest
Now I’m here aiming for the best.
Mother, you gave birth to me,
Here I am of what you want me to be
As soon as I finished my study
We'll live wherever you want will be
You’ve been ever protective to me, Father
Hoping that you will leave me never
Your little girl is now becoming a woman,
But don’t you worry coz you’ll be my only man.
As the time passes by,
Please don’t leave me behind
Coz I am afraid that I might lose you.
For my goals and dreams are for you too.
You were the best achievement in my life
Now, taking risks to strive
I do not often say this to you
But Mama and Papa, I love you, I do!!

2nd Poem: Reminisce
Break up has never been easy
Even though it is a thousand times hazy
How can you ever forget?
The memories you can never regret
Your dazzling eyes took my breathe away
Your smile capture my heart everyday
Your pamper is really irresistible,
And for me our love is impeccable
I miss the times that we are together
I always knew this love will never end,
Until the day you said it was over
Thinking what mistake I had offer.
Texting me just to say Hi,
Never knew because of you I will cry.
Now, that you were okay.
I can’t do anything just to make you stay.
I think this is now the time,
‘Coz I can’t say now that you’re mine.
How happy you can be
I’m broken and you’re fine baby.
Wipe the tears dear,
And show him what you can.
Now, we just have to say goodbye
But the memories will never die.

3rd Poem:Athlete’s Day
Be Prepare, Be aware
It’s coming, Hooray!
All is ready, No one is weary
Intramurals is here, be happy.
It is their best that counts.
Athletes do their try outs.
Everyone should watch out.
The game is about to start.
All the dancers should gather now,
It’s time to show what you’ve got.
Move, Shake, Groove and roll,
It’s time or the Pep Squad here we go.
Every college has their candidates,
For the Beauty and Brain contend.
Set your goals, Strike a pose,
It’s not all about beauty, but also your ability
Aim High, Strive Hard,
Let’s get to work, do teamwork.
Unite, do what is right.
Aim for triumph and Victory.
It doesn’t matter if we win or lose.
It’s in our hands of what to choose
As long as we did our best and enjoyed
This event will not be dismayed and tumbled.
Just one thing is important,
For all of us just to understand,
Victory is not about winning,
‘Coz it is the test of who is really deserving.
2. After Reading, Choose among the three poems and answer the questions that are in the Task.
3. Present your analysis to the class. You can present it any way you want to. You can add pictures of the symbolic things. Be creative!
