Exploration of World Governments

Introduction

Welcome to your class exploration of the governments of our world! You are going to take a trip from the past to the present and all around the world in order to learn about the different governments around the globe! 

Click on the  "Task" tab to read the instructions about your exploration and assignment.

Task

Your task for this web-quest is broken up into 3 separate parts:

1. Explore: Use each of the websites that I have provided under the process page and AT LEAST 3 websites that you find on your own to explore the different governments that I have listed and the countries that exercise those types of government. You are to research each country using the internet and record your findings in your Exploration notebook. (CITE YOUR SOURCES)

2. Compare and Contrast: You and one or two other students in the class will team up and choose two forms of government that you all either think have many differences or are very similar. You are your team are to do further research on your own about these two forms and record your data. 

3. Present: You and your team are to choose a method of presentation (I am giving you free range on this, but possible options include: power point, video, debate, role play/skit, lecture, webpage, prezi, etc.) and will gather your information about each type of government and present it to the class. For more information see the evaluation page for the presentation rubric.

       * important information that MUST be included in your presentation to receive full points: Government leaders and their specific roles, Structures of the government and purposes of the government, countries that exercise that form of government)

5. Comparing world governments

Use this sight when researching and comparing. This sight gives a list of the major countries, their type of government and their leaders. When you see a country you would like explore, check the box that said "check to compare" after you select more than one country there will be a link at the bottom of the page that lists the countries your chose and and a button that says "compare selected"- click on that to see your countries compared.

this is a very helpful link- click on the country and government you would like to research and it sends you to a page with tons of detailed information about each system of government and the people and decisions that currently make it up.

* These websites should be plenty for you to find enough information about governments. Remember, I want you cite every source you use and use at least 3 sites that you find on your own.

Evaluation

You will be recieving two different grades for this assignement:

Exploration Journal Grade: You are to turn in your journal to me when your group preesents your project. You will be graded upon this checklist:

-Presentaion/ organization of Journal

-All 7 forms of government included

-A picture to go along with each form (can be drawn or printed out)

-each of the important areas listed in the task section included for each form of government.

Presentation: Your team's presentaion will be graded against the rubric that follows. Each student will be graded individually. 

 

CATEGORY 4 3 2 1
Preparedness Student is completely prepared and has obviously rehearsed. Student seems pretty prepared but might have needed a couple more rehearsals. The student is somewhat prepared, but it is clear that rehearsal was lacking. Student does not seem at all prepared to present.
Time-Limit Presentation is 7-10 minutes long. Presentation is 6 minutes long. Presentation is 5-4 minutes long. Presentation is less than 3 minutes OR more than 10 minutes.
Collaboration with Peers Almost always listens to, shares with, and supports the efforts of others in the group. Tries to keep people working well together. Usually listens to, shares with, and supports the efforts of others in the group. Does not cause \"waves\" in the group. Often listens to, shares with, and supports the efforts of others in the group but sometimes is not a good team member. Rarely listens to, shares with, and supports the efforts of others in the group. Often is not a good team member.
Method of Presentation Student uses a method of presentation that is appropriate, creative and helps their presentation to be understood.  Student uses a method of presentation that is appropriate, somewhat creative and helped their presentation in some way. Student used a method of presentation but it was not appropriate, creative or helpful. Student did not use a method of presentation OR their method was highly inappropriate and took away from the class learning the information. 
Content Shows a full understanding of the topic. Shows a good understanding of the topic. Shows a good understanding of parts of the topic. Does not seem to understand the topic very well.
Comprehension Student is able to accurately answer almost all questions posed by classmates about the topic. Student is able to accurately answer most questions posed by classmates about the topic. Student is able to accurately answer a few questions posed by classmates about the topic. Student is unable to accurately answer questions posed by classmates about the topic.
