Learning/Thinking Style

Introduction

This topic intitled LEARNING /THINKING STYLE has a goal to help other people to know their different styles, and it will show on how these learning styles affect a students in their learning activities.

Task

OBJECTIVES:

  • Define Learning Style
  • Give the types of learning style
  • Pinpoint your own learning style
  • Compare analytic and global thinkers
Process

Learning/Thinking Style

  • Refer to the preferred way an individual process information.
  • They describe a person’s typical mode of thinking, remembering, or problem solving.

Visual Learners:

  • These learners must see their teacher’s action and facial expression to fully understand the content of a lesson. They tend to prefer sitting in front so no one would block their view
  • They learn best from visual aids including: diagrams, illustrated text books, overhead transparencies, videos, flipcharts and hand-outs
  • Visual learners often prefer to take detailed notes to absorb the information

Classification of Visual Learners according to Ri Charde:

  • Visual-iconic

-those who prefer this form of input are more interested in visual imagery such as film pictures etc. They would like to read a map better than to read a book

  • Visual-symbolic

-those who prefer this form of input feel comfortable with abstract symbolism such as mathematical formulae or written word. They would prefer to read a book than a map.

Auditory Learners:

  • They learn best through verbal lectures, discussion, talking things through and listening to what others have to say.
  • Auditory learners interpret the underlying meanings of speech through listening to tone of voice, pitch, speed and other nuances.

Categories of Auditory Learners:

  • Listeners

  - This is the more common type. Listeners most likely do well in school too, they remember things said to them and make the information their own

  • Talkers

  - They are the one who prefer to talk and discuss. They often find themselves talking to those around them.

Tactile / Kinesthetic Learners:

  • Benefit much from a hands-on approach, actively exploring the physical world around them. They may find it hard to sit still for long periods.
  • They tend to prefer “learning by doing”, preferring the use of psychomotor skills to, say abstract thinking skills.
  • They tend to have good motor memory and motor coordination.

Global –analytic continuum

  • Analytic

- Analytic thinkers tend toward the linear, step by step process of learning. They tend to see infinite elements of patterns rather than whole; they are the “tree seers”.

  • Global

- Global thinkers lean towards non-linear thought and tend to see the whole pattern rather than the particle elements. They are the “forest seers”.

Evaluation

In a 1/2 sheet of paper answer the following:

1. what is learning/thinking style?

2. give the different learning styles and give the meaning of each learning styles.

Conclusion

Adjusting learning and studying strategies can be a fast easy way to improve a college grade from a B to an A. Through studies of learning styles I have been able to decipher my learning types. I am a visual learner, have an integrated brain, meaning I use both hemispheres, and ranked highest in bodily-kinesthetic and logic-mathematical intelligence. There are three types of learning styles. They are: auditory, visual and kinesthetic

The reason for doing this report is to try and discover which is my best and worst way to learn and then to come up with a strategy for improving my ability to learn. The first thing that I need to do is research what different learning styles there is, after I have done this I can determine what are my preferred learning styles.
