Let's Discover a Hurricane!

Introduction

 

Hurricanes

 Grade 6

 

We live on an island where we get hurricanes.On the radio you heard about a tropical depression that appears to be heading towards St.Maarten and chances are very high for it to develop into a hurricane in the next couple of hours.

You might ask yourself, what is a tropical depression? What is a hurricane ? How does a hurricane form? What are the parts of a hurricane? Did St.Maarten ever got struck by hurricanes?

In this WebQuest you will explore and learn about weather occurrences called hurricanes, you will learn about the component parts of a hurricane, view the Saffir-Simpson scale to classify hurricanes, and find the answers to the questions and more.

Task

You and three other students ( with the same color tag) job is to create a powerpoint or podcast  to show what you have learned and  discover about  hurricanes.

You will also answer questions to demonstrate what you have learned about hurricanes.

Process

Step 1

Before you being your research create a creative name for your group.

Step 2

Once step 1 is done, read through the following set of questions carefully before beginning your research.

  10. Hurricane Irma struck St.Maarten on what day? List the day, month and  year. Also list what category it was and what this meant.

After answering all questions, you may begin on putting your powerpoint or podcast together. The presentation should not exceed 10 pages . Remember to  be creative.!
