Introduction

You will not only be assessed on what you know but how you bring that message across in your academic writing. An academic assignment known as a literary analysis essay looks at and assesses a literary work or a particular feature of a literary work. It describes the main idea or theme that you have read in a book. I will teach you how teach you how to structure your paragraphs and your essay in its whole form.  

Task

Read the short story Animal Farm by George Orwell. Using the Process on the next section, write an essay of not more than 500 words. Discuss the characterization of "Napolean". As a closing note please give your personal reflection on the character.

Process

An essay must have three essential components. The introduction, body and conclusion. Your body can consist if moe than one paragraph but remember each topic/idea should have its own paragraph.

The introduction should include:

1) An attention grabber: As the name implies, this is what draws readers in and piques their curiosity about what is going to be discussed.

2) Background information: To produce a successful essay, background information regarding the subject should be included. You may incorporate intriguing information, quotes, or definitions of key phrases that will be utilized in the essay.

3) Position: This is what you both agree with and will therefore discuss in your essay.

4) Thesis: In your essay, you will address these three key topics.

 

The body of your essay you will analyse the short story using the TEEL method.

T for Topic Sentence

The very first sentence in your paragraph which gives the reader a good understanding of what you are going to talk about. It helps to directly respond to what the question is asking you here!

 

E for Example

 

In the example section of the paragraph, you are required to extract important quotes in your text to support you overarching theme and thesis.

In preparation for this part of your paragraph, highlighting, underlining, and annotating your text as you read it could serve you well.

 

E for Explanation

 

So you’ve got your examples written. Now it’s time to explain exactly why they relate to your theme in the explain section.

This will be the bulk of your paragraph. Over here, you will go into further detail, analysing and fleshing out any key points that you want to make. 

 

L for Linking Sentence

 

Sum up your argument over here with your linking sentence. Highlight how your paragraph supports your overarching thesis/point.

The essay's conclusion arrives after all ideas have been fully explored. It encapsulates or echoes the essay's central thesis. The aim is to impart a sense of completeness to the reader.
1. Echo your essay's most compelling points that bolster your central thesis.
2. Finish your essay by paraphrasing your thesis in new terms.
3. Offer your own viewpoint or propose a course of action.
 

 

 

 

Evaluation
  1. Score Overview:

    • 5 (90-100%): Writing demonstrates exceptional understanding of the material. All requirements are met, and some are exceeded.
    • 4 (80-89%): Writing demonstrates consistent understanding of the material. All requirements are met.
    • 3 (70-79%): Writing demonstrates partial understanding of the material. Some requirements are met.
    • 2 (60-69%): Writing demonstrates minimal understanding of the material. Few requirements are met.
    • 1 (50-59%): Writing demonstrates limited understanding of the material. Minimal requirements are met.
