"To Kill a Mockingbird" Background Information WebQuest

Introduction

In this unit, we will read the famous novel To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee.  The story is set in the sleepy town of Maycomb, Alabama in the 1930s. The story is told from the perspective of Scout Finch, whose father, Atticus, is asked to defend a black man charged with the rape of a white woman.  It is an incredible story about race, class, prejudice, heroism and the fight for justice in the Deep South of the 1930’s. To best understand the themes of this great novel, you must first understand the author, the times, and the place in which the story is set.
