Introduction

BANG!

Your time machine has crash landed in 1600's Illinois territory among the Illini tribe of Native Americans. You will need to make friends with the local villagers to survive while you repair your machine. You will need to make a visual representation of the village to bring back to your coworkers in our current time.

Your team must find out as much as possible about the Illini village that you have landed in. Use information you gather about their homes, food, clothes, art, and tools used in the daily lives of these Native Americans to create a detailed drawing of the village and its inhabitants. Your team will need to present your findings and drawing to the class.

  1. You and your partner will work as a team on this project.  You will need to choose who will be the "Computer Operator" (this person uses the keyboard and mouse) and who will be the "Navigator" (this person tells the "Computer Operator" where to go).  You may choose to switch off on jobs each week in the lab, or you may want to keep the jobs the same each time. It is up to each team to decide.
  2. Investigate about the types of homes, food, tools, weapons, games, art, language, and animals that were a part of the daily lives of tribe members.
  3. Discuss the information with your partner. You will each take notes on your own worksheets. Make drawings and label these as you find information.
  4. You will use your notes to write one or two paragraphs with facts about your region.
  5. When you have completed your paragraph and have your teacher's approval, you will make a detailed drawing of the village you visited.
  6. Choose several interesting items to include in the drawing.
  7. Draw pictures, label them, and color your village.
  8. Be ready to talk to the class about what your flag stands for.

Conclusion

Congratulations! You managed to repair your time machine and you are ready to take your findings back to our present time.

You learned about the daily lives of the Illini tribe in pre-colonial Illinois, including how they dressed, what kinds of homes they lived in, and what types of foods they ate. You can now display the drawing of your village to help others learn all about the Illini!
