You are walking along the street and find something! What do you do? Keep it? Publicize your discovery? Do you own it? What would the Rabbis’ advise you? What does your local modern law tell you to do?


You will choose an item that you have found. From there you will research modern law and Rabbinic ruling found in Baba Metzia. You will come to a conclusion of what you have to do with the item you discovered! What kind of society are the Rabbis and modern society trying to set up?

Task

The Task

As you and your Hevruta went on your Meztia walk, what item did you find? You will use the Mishna as well as modern day sources of the Laws of Lost and found to figure out what you have to do! As you explore the past and present laws you will also be grappling with the type of society trying to be set up by these laws. Put your detective glasses on and have fun!

Process
  • According to Baba Metzia and Modern Law what is the proper thing to do with the item.

  • Write a short story of what you would do in the time of the Mishna and Modern time.

  • Make a table showing the difference in both societies

  • What do the similarities and differences of both societies show you about the type of society trying to be established?

  • Create a workable website the school can use for managing its lost and found items a swell as knowing the rules of why they must return or keep an item
