Introduction

This Webquest is going to teach you how to use different statistics and teach you how to find certain statistics for different positions on a baseball field. Not only will this enhance your knowledge about sports statistics, but also help you gain knowledge about baseball. 

Task

Your task is to look up one of the 9 positions in baseball and research how the statistics are created in order to show that player's perfomance numbers. Since there are a lot of different stats that are involved with one player, only research 5 things that a player has that is apart of their statistics. 

Process

Section 1: 

1.) What position are you researching?

2.) Choose 5 different statistics to study.( Batting Average, Slugging Percentage, On Base Percentage, Runs Batted In, Home Runs, Fielding Percentage, Earned Run Average, etc.)

3.) How is your position's statistics measured in a game?

4.) Name 3 or 4 players that are well-known for playing your chosen position.

5.) Find the team that has the most successful players that have ever played based on your research and statistics. 

 

Section 2: 

Create a summary about what you learned about statistics and how they are used in baseball. 

Section 3: 

Find 10 fun facts about your position that you are researching. If you can't find any, just find 10 fun facts about baseball in general. 

Evaluation

You will be evaluated on the quality of your work, the accuracy of your data, and how well you wrote your essay.  This projcect is worth a total of 90 points. Each section is worth 30 points a piece.
