A Look Back at ACS

Introduction

ACS is a school in the Douglas County school district in Castle Rock, CO.  You are going to look back on what you have learned througout the years. This will help you refresh your memory on what you will need to remember for high school

Task

You are going to look back at your ACS 8th grade year and think of something that you think that you are going to need to remember in highschool. There will be three tasks that you need to complete and they all relate to one another. The topic will be of your choosing and it could be about anything that you've learned this year! Choose wisely!!

Process

Task One: For your first task you will find ten definitions related to your topic that you will be able to use in topics two and three.

Task Two: For the second task you will be creating a chart/table/diagram that will use those defiitions and will help you put those definitions into a paragraph/essay for task number three

Task Three: Now you will create a paragraph/ essay using those definitions and the diagram that you created in task two:

Evaluation

You will be evaluated on plenty of things, Through your quality of work, grammer, spelling, and as well your infromation. The 1st two tasks are worth 25 points each and the essay is 50 points hopefully you do your Look Back at ACS with quality.

Mechanics

  • Writer makes no errors in grammar or spelling that distract the reader from the content.

  • Needs little or no editing

  • Good word choice

  • Writer makes 1-2 errors in grammar or spelling that distract the reader from the content.

  • Needs editing but doesn’t distract from reading

  • Good word choice

  • Writer makes 3-5  errors in grammar or spelling that distract the reader from the content.

  • Needs editing

  • Decent word choice

  • Writer makes more than 5 errors in grammar or spelling that distracts from understanding/communication

  • Needs major editing

  • Poor word choice

Content

  • There is one clear, well-focused topic.

  • Main idea stands out and is supported by detailed information.

  • Topic sentence is well written

  • The conclusion sentence is well written and sums up the paragraph.

  • Main idea is clear, but the supporting information is general.

  • Attempts topic sentence

  • Conclusion attempts to sum up the paragraph

  • Main idea is somewhat clear, but there is a need for more supporting information.

  • Topic sentence is poorly written

  • Poor attempt at conclusion

  • The main idea is not clear. There is a seemingly random collection of information.

  • No topic sentence

  • No conclusion.

Conclusion

CONGRATGULATIONS!! You have completed the Look Back at ACS lesson! Now you have refreshed your memory on what you have learned at ACS.Now you have learned and rememberd a valuable lesson that will hopefully be a great start off into highschool. Hopefully this lesson taught you what you will be expecting going into high school through this lesson.
