Introduction
This Webquest has been taken from INTEREGERS WEBQUEST by Paul Brown, David A. Brown Middle School.
Introduction
You recently graduated college and have been spending time looking for a job. In the Classified Section of you local newspaper, you came across an employment opportunity for a new magazine called "Mathematics Monthly" You contacted the magazine about the position. After going in for an interview, the owner of the magazine was very impressed with you. He was also very impressed with several other candidates. To help decide who to hire, he developed a webquest for you to go through to see who would be the best person for the job. In this webquest, you are going to find out about the history of integers, learn some different ways to add, subtract, multiply, and divide integers, critique some online math games, and find out how integers are used in the real world. Whichever candidate does the best job is going to get hired. Good luck!

Task
Task

For this webquest you will do research for a magazine about integers. By investigating various links and completing worksheets you will do the following:
1)Write about the history of integers
2)Write 3 common ways to add and subtract integers.
3)Write an paragraph on which method you like the best when it comes to adding and subtracting integers.
4)Give three examples (in paragraph form) about how integers are used in the real world
5)Write 2 reviews of online integer games.
Process
Process
HISTORY OF INTEGERS⇒PART 1
Your first job is going to be doing some research on the history of integers. On the handout are some questions for you to answer. Please use the following websites to do your research.
ADDING AND SUBTRACTING INTEGERS⇒PART 2
The next step is to do some investigating about some common ways to add and subtract integers. Use the websites/videos below to gather your information. For each of the ways fill out the HANDOUT which has questions for you to answer.
METHOD 1 NUMBER LINE
METHOD 2 ABSOLUTE VALUE
METHOD 3 TILES
USU.EDU SUBTRACT INTEGERS DEMO
Now that you have finished gathering information on adding and subtracting integers, write a paragraph about which method you like to use best and why? PLEASE BE SPECIFIC IN YOUR ANSWER. DON'T JUST SAY IT'S EASY OR BECAUSE THE OTHER ONES WERE DIFFICULT.
MULTIPLYING AND DIVIDING INTEGERS⇒PART 3
Use the links below to create a colorful advertisement that shows how to multiply and divide integers. Be sure to include how to tell if the answer is negative or positive. This will go in your magazine.
INTEGERS IN THE REAL WORLD⇒PART 4
Use the links below to find examples of how integers are used in the real world Focus on adding and subtracting integers. Come up with three examples of how integers are use in your everyday life, one example must be one you created NOT FOUND. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU EXPLAIN HOW BOTH POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE NUMBERS ARE USED.
MATH BEYOND SCHOOL APPLICATION OF INTEGERS
INTEGER GAMES⇒ PART 5
The links below contain games about integers. You need to play at least four of the games. For two of the of the games you need to complete the INTEGER GAME CRITIQUE HANDOUT
ARITHMETIC FOUR *For this game you need to play with a partner. For the settings, click on Integer Addition, Integer Subtraction, Integer Multiplication, and Integer Division. Change the time to no limit. Then click on Start Game.
