Task
Activity 1: Go to the following link: http://www2.gobiernodecanarias.org/educacion/17webc/eltanque/pizarradig…
In this page you can find a game! You should buy some products like: toys, food, sports, tools, books, etc.
In this game you will find different slides with 3 products of the same topic. You need to calculate the final price and you have to pay with the exact import of the product. Be careful!!! The cash register is broken and it doesn't return the change.
At the bottom of this page, you will find all the money. You can select the coins and notes if you put the mouse on it. When you think that the price is right you press the key check (T). If you think you are wrong you can press to the key delete (C).
Good luck! :)

Activity 2: Role-play
Now it's time to transform what you have been doing in the activity 1 into reality!
In class you will simulate a real market. You will work in pairs and one of you will be the seller and the other the buyer. Each of you will have a wallet with the coins and bank notes. You will acquire some products like sweets, toys and clothes. The role of the seller is to say the price of the product and give change. The objective of the buyer is to pay the products but taking into account to give the money nearest the price. After 10 minutes you will change your roles, so you can practice the role of the buyer and also the roll of the seller.

In this page you will find "The apple" fruit shop where you will acquire some products. First of all you should read the formulations because they are going to ask some questions related to it! In each case you will have 3 different options to choose. Looking the prices list and through mental arithmetics you should anwer all the questions!
When you have finished you should press the key "Comprobar" and it will indicate if it's correct! If it is incorrect, don't give up because you will have 2 more opportunities!!!
Try to do your bests! Good luck!

Activity 6: go to the following link: http://www.mathnook.com/math/exactchangeeuro.html
In this link you will find a game related with Euros!! Before playing it, you need to read the instructions (you will find them pressing the second key of the link).
After reading it, you will be ready to play!! You will see some coins that are falling and a change due at the bottom of the page. It indicates a quantity of money, for example, 0'52 €. You should press the different coins that are falling until you arrive at this quantity.
Good luck :)

The teacher is going to give the following worksheet. We can observe a table with some quantities and some coins and banknotes.
You should mark the coins and banknotes you need to get the final quantity that appears at the top of the page.
Be careful: you should complete the table using as less coins and banknotes as possible.
Activity 7:
In this task, the exercises will be written and individual in order to reinforce everything learned and practice for the final evaluation exercise. The teacher will give you the worksheet and as good students, you will separate from your peers and don't copy!!. Each of you must take this task seriously, like a final exam, to demonstrate what you have learned during all previous sessions. Therefore, this is a simulation and reinforcement for the final task. Activities will include:
LO: Order decimals
Write each set of decimals in the correct order, from smallest to largest :
1. 3.3 3.03 3.33 0.33 3.031
2. 2.16 6.12 1.62 1.26 1.2 2.1 6.2 2 2.61
3. 0.3 0.26 0.193
4. 4.12 2.14 2.4 4.1 2.04 4.02
Round each of these decimals to the nearest whole number
5. 1.3 1.45 1.67 8.2 2.8 3.433
Continue these sequences:
6. 1.3 , 1.5, 1.7, ____ , _______, _______
7. 2, 2.15, 2.3, ____ , ______, _______
8. 1.34, 1.24, 1.14, ____, _____, _______
9. 0.005, 0.01, 0.02, 0.04, ____, _____, ______
10. Now make up a sequence for your partner to solve (can you also do one in fractions?)
After completing all activities, you must give the task to your nearest partner in order to correct it. When all the sheets have been corrected, you will return it to its owner. Then the whole class with the teacher will correct it on the board.
Activity 8
The teacher is going to give the following worksheet. We can observe a table with some quantities and some coins and banknotes. You should mark the coins and banknotes you need to get the final quantity that appears at the top of the page.
Be careful: you should complete the table using as less coins and banknotes as possible.
When you have finished, you must do the other worksheet with decimal operations.

Process
First day

Hello mathematician!
Today is a very important day: you will know the decimal numbers in a different way. Could you imagine how? Here you have the answer: with our money, the Euros!!!!
First of all, we will need to know the shapes, colours and the value of each coin and banknote and later we will create them! Are you ready?
You will have 6 different colours: orange, yellow, violet, red, blue and brown. You should investigate how are the real Euros (€) and try to copy them. When you have finished, you should copy the value of each coin and note in order not to confuse each one.

Second day
Good morning! Today it's time to use the coins and the banknotes that we created in the last class, but not in the reality, we aren't experts at the moment, probably in the future!!
First we will practice with an online game! It will simulate a real shop and you will buy some products and pay them with unreal money. In it, you will find a poster with 3 pictures of different objects. Next to it, you will find the prices in Euros. You should add the prices and pay with the exact import because the cash register from the shop is broken and it doesn't return you the change so be careful!!
Some advice: you can use the real money that you have created for count the final price.
Once you have finished, it's time to practice it in the reality! We will create a market in the class with different stands. You will role-play different situations in which you are supposed to use the money you created in the last session! You will work in pairs: one is going to be the seller and the other the buyer. You will acquire some products like sweets, toys, books and clothes.
The seller will say the price of the products and give change. The buyer should pay the products trying to give the money nearest the price.

Third day
Hi! Today we will be practicing what we have been studying with computers!!
In "Task" part you will find activities number 3,4 and 5! Read them and demonstrate what you know!
Forth day
Good morning! Today we will classify the class in two different parts: in the first one you will be working with computers and later you will do a written activity.
If you go to "Task" you will find activity number 6. You can read what you should do there but if you have any doubt, ask to me!!
After some minutes, the teacher will indicate to change the activity, which you can find and read in number 7!
Fifth day
Hello class! Today is the day that the teacher will see who are those who are deserving the title of experts and mathematicians in decimal euros! The teacher will give you two sheets (activity 8) which you must fill, considering everything that you have learned!
Those students in the class who can successfully pass the final test will gain the title of experts!!! Don't worry: if you don't pass it and the teacher considers that you have put a lot of effort, you will have a second oppotunity in next class because you will repeat the test again to get the title.

Evaluation

In order to evaluate all the learning process, here you can read some important things that the teacher will bear in mind:
- The teacher will take into account your actitude and participation in class.
- The teacher will correct the different worksheets that you will do and she will put some marks.
- The teacher can access to the results you get in the different online games and activities so try to do your bests in them!
- While you will be practicing in the computers, the teacher will walk around the class and take some notes about your learning process and results.
- Final exam: you will have a final exam at the end of the unit. It's important to pass it in order to demonstrate all you have learned and get the mathematicians' title.
Here you will find a rubric where you can reflect about your learning process.

Conclusion

The euro is the single currency shared by 18 Member States of the European Union, which form the euro area. The introduction of the euro in 1999 was an important step towards European integration. It is also one of its major successes: around 333 million EU citizens now use it as their currency and enjoy its benefits, which will continue expanding as other EU countries will adopt the euro.
This is why we wanted that students could learn their value and how to use it in every day situations, as daily life.
Through the coins we wanted to teach decimal numbers, so we give a lot of value to this block of mathematics. We thought to perform all these activities to teach students different possibilities of using decimals in the euro. Always trying not to make it very boring, but trying to make it more enjoyable, making interactive games, simulations of real markets, but without forgetting the most practical and mathematics for the realization of worksheets.
