Let's Help WWF

Introduction

“From elephants to polar bears, WWF fights to secure a future for animals on the planet we all share. WWF helped bring back the Amur tiger and Africa’s black rhinos from the edge of extinction. We are giving isolated, dwindling populations of black footed ferrets and river dolphins a second chance.

WWF continues to keep habitats and landscapes thriving. We envision, create, test and deliver solutions for a crowded planet. We work with partners at all levels, from community leaders to governments and multinational bodies. But our work is far from done, and WWF constantly strives to protect the species we all care about.” (World Wildlife Fund)

Task

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) asked our class to help them.  They have funded money and want our help to figure out what animal should have for funds and also they would like to see a presentation of why the animal should receive the money.  The group needs to convince the class and WWF that the animal they choose is the best.  Student groups should describe the animal, the foods they eat, where they live, the foods they eat, where the live, who are their predictors, why are they endangered, and any other information to convince the WWF.

Process
  • Students will pick an animal and they can choose to work together in groups of five.

  • The group will each pick one of the topics below.  They will all add information in the other important information.
    • Describe the animal
    • Food they eat
    • Where they live
    • Who hunts them
    • Why are they endangered

  • Students will use a google doc to add the information they found with the group.  This way everyone can be working on it at the same time. (Please add your teacher to the doc)

  • When all students found their information they will use google presentation to make their presentation as a group.  There should be 2 pictures or videos in the presentation.

  • All students should present their presentation about how they think their animal should get the funds.
