Alaska Territorial Guard

Introduction

The Navajo Code Talkers were one of many Native American groups that have contributed to the US Military in meaningful ways.  As we study the big idea of living in "Two Worlds," it is important to understand how Alaska Natives have served the US Military as well.  In this webquest, you will read, view images, and listen to audio recordings to gather information concerning the Alaska Territorial Guard's active role in defending the United States.  Many of you may know a service member, or have one in your family history, that managed living in the two worlds we have have been discussing.

Task

Content Objectives:

*Research the role of Native Alaskan's in the US Military

*Analyze how Native Alaskan's mangaged to live in "Two Worlds" (the native world and that of the US military) and what motivated them to do so

*Evaluate whether or not the service of the ATG has been properly honored, remembered, and supported

Language Objectives:

*Read about, listen to audio recordings, and view images concerning the ATG and respond in writing.

You will record your responses in a google doc titled "Name-ATG Webquest." You must follow instructions in the Process section carefully and respond to questions in complete sentences or paragraphs. All websites and sources to be used are listed in the Credits section of the webquest.
