Introduction

Wow!  Who wants to travel back in time to see what life was like 100 years ago????? Do you want to see what schools looked like? What toys kids played with or what clothes they wore?

You do!  Great!  Your team can join us for this great adventure!

Task

Time Machine Tasks

  • Take turns using technology.
  • Compare and contrast our school to a school 100 years ago.
  • Share changes in clothing from 100 years ago until today.
  • Explore what games children played 100 years ago.

Activity 1

  • Watch this video on a one-room school house in Ohio.
  • Look at this website full of pictures of schools 100 years ago. 

Go to this site about a One Room School House.

  • Go to Google Slides - T-Chart  
  • Save a copy of the T-Chart. Fill out the T-chart comparing and contrasting Brussels American School to schools 100 years ago.

Activity 2

  • Go to the following site that is an advertisement for toys from the early 1900s.
  • Look at the picture at the top of the page.  Look at the toys the children are holding.  
  • Go to Google slides and get this T-Chart graphic organizer.  Save a copy to your google drive and complete.
  • Look at the collection of toys Ms. Friedhoff has on the window sill in the class library.  Select and play with one toy.  
  • Find a friend to have a discussion about the toys - what you like, what you don't like, how they compare to what you have at home. We will talk about these as a whole group later.

Activity 3

  •  Let's search what clothes children wore 100 years ago.  Go to this Custom Search - search for images only of children's clothing from 100 years ago.
  • Print the picture.
  • Ask Ms. Friedhoff for class camera.  Take a photo of each partner.
  • Ms. Friedhoff will print off your picture you took.
  • Glue down each picture to a piece of paper.
  • Note the differences about the clothes - write notes on the photos.
