Pinning Famous Artists

Introduction

Have you ever seen the painting ‘Starry Night’ by Van Gogh, or Edvard Munch’s, ‘The Scream’? We’ve seen these paintings hundreds of times, but what do you really know about these famous artists? What made them famous and why do people consider them great artists? You’re about to find out.

In this WebQuest you will choose a famous artist, research them, and learn what made them influential. You will use Pinterest to connect your artist with images from today and ultimately create a final piece of artwork. Have fun and be creative!

Task

Students will:

  • research & summarize the history and impact of their chosen artist
  • explore Pinterest (i.e. Pinterest vocabulary, setup of categories, how to create ‘boards’ and ‘pin’ images)
  • select and utilize at least four different Pinterest categories in order to assemble a variety of pins relating to the artist
  • create a mind map that shows connections between the chosen artist, pins, and research findings. (This will be part of your planning for your final piece of artwork)

Conclusion

I hope you now feel closer to your chosen artist. You have just completed your artist research in which you learned about the personal and professional background of your artist. Using that information, you created a Pinterest board and pinned images that relate to your artist. All of this information was then transferred into a mind map, which demonstrates how your artist, images, and research all connect to one another. Did you learn something new about your artist that you didn't know before? Do you have a deeper understanding of your artist and his/her work and influence on the world? Hopefully you can answer 'yes' to these questions now that you've completed the WebQuest.
