Introduction
Have you ever thought about becoming an author? Remember reading great stories that seem to take you on an adventure or to a different world. Have you ever thought to youself "Man, wouldn't it be cool to write a great story just like this!" Well if you have, you are in luck!You have recently become an expert on figurative language. You are such an incredible expert that you have decided to write a children's story about figurative language! After writing your story it will be sent off to a publisher in hopes to be published so that millions of children may read your story!
Task
Your book team will consist of 5 experts:
1. Simile Author: You are to research about a smilie. For example, what is a similie? Are there any keywords to look for to help a reader indentify a similie? You must provide an example of a similie. You must also provide an illustration of the example you are using.
2. Metaphor Author: You are to research about a metaphor. For example, what is a metaphor? Are there any keywords to look for to help a reader indentify a metaphor? You must provide an example of a metaphor. You must also provide an illustration of the example you are using.
3. Personification Author: You are to research about personification. For example, what is personification? Are there any keywords to look for to help a reader indentify personification? You must provide an example of personification. You must also provide an illustration of the example you are using.
4. Alliteration Author: You are to research about alliteration. For example, what is alliteration? Are there any keywords to look for to help a reader indentify alliteration? You must provide an example of alliteration. You must also provide an illustration of the example you are using.
5.Onomotopeia Author: You are to research about a onomotopeia. For example, what is an onomotopeia? Are there any keywords to look for to help a reader indentify an onomotopeia? You must provide an example of an onomotopeia. You must also provide an illustration of the example you are using.
Process
Here is the process to use to complete your task:
1. Find your group and decide which role each of you will play. The roles are Simile Author, Metaphor Author, Personification Author, Alliteration Author and Onomotopeia Author.
2. Once you have decided your roles, being researching your figurative language.
3. Research first what your figurative language is and keys words to help identify that figurative language. Remember to help each other in the group since you will be graded on everyone's work put together not just your individual work. The more everyone knows the better the project! At the bottom of this page you will find links to webpages and videos to help with your research.
4. Decide on an example to use for your figuartive language.
5. Illustrate your example.
6. Meet with you group to decide how you want to design and set up your book. For example, what do you want the title to be? What do you want the cover of the book to look like? Do you want to set up the book like a chapter book or short story, so will it need a table of contents? How do you want to order the information, which figurative language first, second, third, fourth fifth? How will you conclude your book? What will the back cover have on it? Will you number the pages? Where will you put the page numbers?
7. Don't forget to use the rubric in the evaluation tab to make sure you are including everything you are suppose to in your book.
8. Create a rough draft of the book.
9. Have everyone in the group revise and edit the rough draft. Discuss what needs to be fixed, changed and what doesn't.
10. Create your final product.
11. Present to the class.

Evaluation
You have been given a copy of the rubric that you will be graded on. Make sure you do not loose this sheet of paper as it has to be turned in with your final project!!!!!
Key elements that you will be graded on:
- Title Page, All 5 examples of figurative languge, illustrations, front and back cover!
- All defintitions are accurate!
- Writing and illustrations are neat!
- Be Creative!
- Working well with your group!

Congratualtions, you have now become a published author! Newton Publishing Company has decided to publish your book. Soon millions of children all over the world will be reading and falling in love with your book!
