Introduction
On schooldays, every morning you have breakfast, you eat your lunch and the day ends with having dinner together with your family. During the day you eat some biscuits or a piece of fruit and that’s it. Perhaps you prefer water, juice, or other refreshing drinks.
You have seen in the video how animals eat their food, and you probably have realized that you do not eat in the same way as they do, but have you ever thought of the differences between other countries and how and what they eat?
Well, it’s time to discover it!

Task
You have one hour to complete the task. You do not have to worry, you can do this!
- You are divided into groups of 3 pupils
- Each group has a different country:
1. Mexico
2. Portugal
3. Italy
4. China
5. the U.S.A.
(Remember what country you have as a group!)
Objective of the web quest: every group has to discuss a country based on the answers on the questions (hand-out).
Instructions:
- First, you read p. 283-285 (including “When people eat what: meals”) of the text “20. Food and drinks” which gives information about Britain and the way they eat. Answer question 2).
- Then, try to answer the questions about your specific country on the hand-out. Answer questions 1), 3)-9). There is an extra question as well for those groups who finish earlier. For this question you have to look up the information yourselves.
- You look up the information you need to answer the questions on your hand-outs (you can find extra links in the part “process”).
- When you are ready, you start making a PowerPoint presentation. You will have to use this PowerPoint for the presentation. In this presentation, you will have to explain your country to the other students.
- While listening to the presentations, you try to fill in the questions from the other groups.
Let’s get started!
Process
Below each country, you can find links to a website that provides information to fill in the questions. Just click on them and discover the information you need!

Evaluation
Have you answered all the questions about your country on the hand-out?
Now you can start making your PowerPoint presentation!
This presentation will be no longer than 5 minutes and you will have to make sure the other students are able to answer all the questions.
However, you do not simply read the questions out loud! Prepare yourselves!
Tips & tricks for your (PowerPoint) presentation:
- Keep it simple! Do not exaggerate in using too much text.
- Use some images to visualize the information.
- Use the PowerPoint as a guideline while presenting.
- Make sure everyone participates!
Good luck!

Conclusion
After you have given your own presentation and have listened to the presentation of the other groups, you now should have learned some interesting food facts about other countries!
You should be able to answer their questions and to understand the differences between the countries and the way they eat!
Hope you enjoyed your food journey around the world!
