Culture Postcard

Introduction

Students will design and write a postcard from a country of their choosing. Students will learn about the country and its culture, and write as if they are experience the country first hand. Students will write as if they are sending the postcard back home to a friend or family member, and are explain to them what they have seen and experienced.

Task

Students will be designing and write a post card from a country of their choosing. Students will have to do some research on the country to learn about its culture and landscape. Students will then draw on the postcard scenery that they feel best represents the country and its culture. They will then write on the postcard about the culture and what they experienced.

Process

Steps:

 

1. Have the students choose one country that they want to create a post card for.

 

2. Then instruct the students to use any resources they have available to them such as books, laptops, iPad, and the internet to help do their research on the country.

 

3. As students are completing their research pass out blank post cards, and color pencils for the students to use to help create their post card.

 

4. Once students gathered enough information about their country, have them draw scenery that they feel best represent their country of their choosing.

 

5. Once students are done drawing their scenery, have them write a short message to a family or friend explaining their finding of the country and its culture as if the students are experiencing the country first hand.

 

6. Once students are done with their post cards, they need to turn them in to the teacher.

Conclusion

Students drew an image that they felt best represented their country and culture's best. This activity helped teach students about different cultures around the world, and how to respect other people’s differences.
