Task

Question 1. What are the five themes of geography and how do they impact people’s lives?

1. Location

Location effects people's lives because of people learning the different places and where they are located in the world.  Learning how far the locations are from one city to the next or from one state to the next impacts people when going on vacation.  People are able to see how far they have to travel in order to get to the places.

2. Place

Place deals with the characteristics of the location.  For example rivers, canals, beaches and plant life are great examples of places in the world.  These places impact people lives in many different ways.  The beaches for example play the role for vacationing for world.  During hot summer days people love to play on the beach which are connected to the oceans.  Rivers and canals tend to connect with each other to create different places in which we as humans go to vacation and spend time with our family.

3. Human Environment Interaction

This basically deals with people adapting to the environment or location. As said in the above paragraph.  Students interact with certain places and locations to use for vacations or relaxing places.

4. Movement

This deals with the migration and movement of humans across the world.  This impacts the world because humans are always on the move.  In today’s social technology such as a GPS help people travel to different places.

5. Region

This deals with how the environment and world is divided.  There are many different parts of the regions.  For example you have the mountain area and the water are of the world.  These are examples of two different region in which impact the peoples live by way of things like hurricanes and tornadoes.

Question 2

Why should historical events and people be important to me?

Historical events and people should be important because of what historical even the person may have achieve.  For example, President Lincoln was the president who was remembering for helping freeing the slaves.  This should be important to many people because who knows what would have happened if the slaves were not freed then. There are also other inventors in history who are very important because of the things in which they invented.  The invention of electricity is a great example of an important historical event.

Question 3

What is economics and why should I care?

This is the part of social studies that deals with consumption and the transfer of wealth.  You should care about economics because this is the way the world is set up.  When the economics of the world is low this can be cause by job lost or less economics spending.  As of right now the world is still struggling economy because there is still not enough jobs for everyone.  Many students are graduating from college and yet they are unable to find a job.  This is why economics is very important.

Process

 Activity 1

For middle school, the teacher can have the play the matching game where they match each state with their capital.  They can then use map puzzles to also help with the location of the states.

Activity 2

For middle school, the teacher can have the students create their own maps.  Since this activity deals with places, the teacher can have the student label the different places like canal, rivers, and oceans on the map.

Activity 3

For middle school, the teacher can have the student complete a banking activity.  The teacher can have each student pretend they own their own bank account with a certain amount of money in it.  The students will discuss what they want to do for a living and what type of lifestyle they want to live.  The student will complete a monthly budget worksheet based on information.
