Are All Cells the Same?

Introduction

For any living thing to function properly they need cells. Plants have cells and animals have cells, there are a lot of similarities betweeen these cells. There are also very important differences for within these cells that you should know.

Without these cells and their different organs, your body will not be able to function the way you would want it to function. With this webquest you will be able to learn about the differences and similarities between these cells and much more!

Each person in the group will have a different role, some roles can have more than one student. Here are the roles and their descriptions:

1.   Recorder: This student will be the person who writes down everything.
2.   Manager: This will be the student who makes sure that everyone is on task and doing what they are supposed to do.
3.   Animal Specialist/s: This/these student will be the student(s) that focuses on the animal cell and shares the information with their group.
4.   Plant Specialist/s: This/these student will be the student(s) that focuses on the plant cell and shares the information with the rest of their group members.

Task

To be able to complete this lesson fast and efficiently, I have provided some tasks to help you along your stupendoud journey. If you follow the task carefully and read the directions throughly your adventures in cells will be more than exciting.

Here are your special tasks:

  • Clearly determine the different parts of animal and plant cells.
  • Illustrate basic images of plant and animal cells after finishing the lesson.
  • Be able to describe and explain the different functions and jobs fo the organelles.
  • Be able to explain the importance of each organelle and why the relationships between the organelles are important.
  • Create a 3D replica of a plant or an animal cell and give a report on the cell chosen.

Process

Make sure you are readng the tab that you are in to make sure you are dong the correct part of the webquest. To see the rubric go to the "Evaluation" tab, so you know exactly what I expect of you.

Here is the process I would like you to follow, in order for you to do the webquest correctly you have to go step-by -step. If you have ay questiosns please ask me.

    Following the steps listed below:

1. Go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfopLilIOeA&list=PLn8uOsnGoglOB9r4fjV54oBn_H9LEFRsN

This step will help you with the visual aspect of the webqust. it will also give you a btter understanding of the plant and animlal cells.

2. Visit http://google.ca/images and search "Organelles" +" Plant Cell" and "Organelles" + "Animal Cell" to have some diagrams show to you and you may use it as a reference later on if you wish so, but a courtesy footnote is required.

3. Use a science text book that has information about plant and animal cell or refer to the hand-out that everybody was given earlier in  science class to have a deeper understanding on plant and animal cell and its organelles.

4. If you think you are 100% with your everything, I have a quiz I would like you to take if you do no pass with an 85 or higher I would like you to retake the quiz. http://www.syvum.com/cgi/online/mult.cgi/squizzes/biology/cellgr7.tdf?0

When you are done with the work from above, chose 2 of the 3 option to complete:

1. Complete a open-book assignment; Write a journal entry about what you have learned about cells and their organelles

2. Finish an illustration of either plant or animal cell with their organelles labeled clearly

3. Work in a group of 2 or 3 and discuss cells/ organelles and write a summary of your discussion.

Evaluation

Conclusion

Please read this page after completed all assignments requested, or use this as a reference of a final review.

You learned today about cell organelles, which are their organs. Most of the organs cells use are the following, Mitochondria, Nucleus, Golgi vasecides, Cytoplasm, etc... You also learned the similarities and differences between plant and animal cells. Now you shoud have a better understanding on what an organelle is and what its function is. Cells are important to us, it's almost everywhere, it exists on EVERY single living-thing also known as biotic elements.

- Focusing on study about different organelles within both plant and animal cells

- Practice scientifically-record and journal-entry writing strategy

- Understand contents through both visual and literally way

- Produce visual illustration that helps to improve science diagram drawing skill

Objectives/Goals:

  1. The students will be able to compare and contrast plant and animal cells.
  2. Students will also be able to determine the differences between the cells.
  3. Finally, the students’ will be able to describe and explain the different organelles in the cells.
