Title: "Let's Go Out To Eat"
Description: This Webquest will give students the opportunity to use their math skills in the real world by a going out to eat experience. Each group will be assigned a restaurant where they will chose their menu, tally their bill with sales tax and tip, divide up the bill, and figure out their change. Students will use the math skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to complete this task.

Your class has done a great job of mastering your math skills. Because of this we will engage in a fun learning journey by going out to eat. You will be assigned a restaurant to eat at. You will have a limited budget. You will learn about and engage in the many tasks that happen in a restaurant. So let's get going, lunch is waiting!
Task
For this Webquest your class will be divided into groups. Each group will be given a a restaurant to eat at and a budget. Each student will order within the budget and add up their order, then your group will calculate the sales tax and tip, divide up the bill amount equally among the group members, and make correct change. You will use your math skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. So if you're hungry, let's get started!
Process
Your teacher will divide your class into groups. Each group will be assigned a restaurant to "visit" for lunch. Each student will play an important role in the group which will enable you to complete all of the tasks of eating out at a restaurant. Before you look at your menu, you must decide which group member will fill each of the following roles below:Order Master:The Order Master is in charge of filling out the Order Ticket Form with the menu choices of each group member. Make sure that the order includes the meal choice and a drink for each person. The group will also choose an appetizer to share. You will also record prices for each food item chosen. You group will work together to tally up the total cost of the meal. You will record this total on the form. Terrific Taxer:The Terrific Taxer is in charge of figuring out how much tax will be added to your groups bill. You will lead your group to determine the sales tax in your city and state and multiply it by your total food bill. You will record this amount on the Order Ticket Form.Thrifty Tipper:The Thrifty Tipper is in charge of figuring out the tip amounts for giving a tip of 10%, 15%, and 20%. You will lead your group to take the total price plus the tax and then multiply to calculate the tip. You will record these three amounts on the Tip Calculation Form. Then you will lead your group in discussing and deciding which tip amount to choose. You will record this amount on the Order Ticket Form. Diligent Divider: The Diligent Divider is in charge of leading the group to divide up the total cost of the food, sales tax and tip equally amoung the members of the group. You will add up the total amount of the food, tax, and tip, and then divide by the number of members in your group. You will record this amount on the Order Ticket Form.Quick Change-Maker:The Quick Change-Maker will lead the group to help calculate how much change each group member will receive back from the waitress when they pay their bill. You will record this amount on the Order Ticket Form.Directions:1. Each group member receives $20 to spend at their restaurant.2. As a group, pull up the menu from your assigned restaurant. Click on Ruby Tuesday's, Olive Garden, Max & Erma's, or Red Robin.3. Decide what food and drink you will order for your lunch and record this information on the Individual Order Form. Then add up the total price of your meal - food and drink - and record your total on the form. Individual Order Form4. As a group, discuss and decide which appetizer to order and share. The Order Master will record this information on the Order Ticket Form.5. The Order Master will lead your group to add your individual totals together along with the cost of the appetizer chosen. The Order Master will record this information on the Order Ticket Form. Order Ticket Form6. The Terrific Taxer will lead your group to determine the sales tax. Your city and state's sales tax for Worthington Ohio is 7.5%. Multiply this amount by the total food price. Record this information on the Tax & Tip Calculation Form. Tax & Tip Calculation Form7. Decide how much tip to give your waitress. The Thrifty Tipper will lead your group to figure out how much a 10%, 15%, and 20% tip would be. The Thrifty Tipper will record this information on the Tax & Tip Calculation Form. 8. Now as a group decide how what tip percentage you will give your waitress. 9. The Diligent Divider will lead your group to take the total meal cost (individual food choices, appetizer, tax, and tip) and divide this by the number of members in your group. The Diligent Divider will record this number on the Order Payment Form and indivdual group members will record it on their Individual Order Form.9. The Quick Change-Maker will review the amount that each member owes for the meal and then subtract this amount from the $20 available for each group member to determine the changed owed to each person. Record this amount on the Order Ticket Form.10. When you have completed all of the tasks above please turn in all forms to your teacher, make sure the namees of your group members are on all forms except for the Individual Order Form.
