Introduction
Have you ever organized a special collection or even just put your laundry away in the correct drawers ( socks with socks/ t shirts with t shirts ! If the answer is yes then you have the skills for this biology task!
People like to organize or classify things, it s in our nature! Scientists classify living things by comparing and contrasting their physical chactateristics.
Living things are classified into 6 kingdoms- Plant, Animal, Protist, Fungi,Archebacteria, and Eubacteria. Each Kingdom is then divided up intodifferent phyla, classes, orders, families, genus, and species. Your team task will to work together to learn about this classification system. You will complete 4 activities creating artifacts as you go that will end with a a display of 6 Kingdoms of Living Things for our hall gallery. In Fifth grade our class studies will focus mostly on the plant kingdom and animal kingdom but this project gives us a great place to start.
Start by watching this introductory clip . It will give you and your teammates a general overview. Settle in it is 20 minutes long.

Process
1.You will be assigned one of the following Kingdoms to research: Fungus, Protist, Archaebacteria & Eubacteria, Plant, Animal.
2. Research your assigned KINGDOM using classroom library print resources and
internet links provided. Follow the directions for ACTIVITY 1 (click on Evaluation heading)
3. Research 1 or 2 SPECIES that belong from your Kingdom
to research. See ACTIVITY 2 (click on Evaluation heading and scroll down).
4. Create a posterboard or trifold DISPLAY of your kingdom and species to clearly demonstrates your learning. See ACTIVITY 3 (click on Evaluation heading and scroll down).
5. Generate 5 to 10 good questions about your Kingdom and species whose answers can be found on your display and create a QUESTION & ANSWER SHEET. See ACTIVITY 4 (click on Evaluation heading and scroll down).
6. Work as a team to create an original mnemonic device to remember the order of the kingdom fill in the graphic organizer for the species of your choice. See CONCLUSION for details.

Activity 1
KINGDOM RESEARCH
Your team will use print and internet sources to find out the following information to take notes about your assigned Kingdom. Please use the note outline form I provided
- Name of Kingdom
- List general characteristics (at least 5)
- How is this kingdom subdivided (list all divisions)
- Single celled organism or multicelled organism
- Where on earth are they found
- How do they get food/energy
- Do they move and if so how
- List names of examples of living things (organisms) in this kingdom (At least 4)
- Find or draw pictures of several organisms that belong in this kingdom

Activity 2
SPECIES RESEARCH
Your next job find out the following information about your chosen SPECIES,using both print and internet sources research and find the information. Your summary writing needs to include the following. If you have time be sure to play the Classifying Living Things game listed under internet links. A. SCIENTIFIC NAME(Genus & Species)B. COMMON NAMEC. GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS ( at least 5 facts)D. BODY STRUCTURE (at leastE. SPECIFIC HABITAT, FOOD, MOVEMENT, ADAPTATIONSF. RELATED SPECIESG. PICTURES OF THE ORGANISM

Activity 3
DISPLAY
You will use your Kingdom and Species research to create a educational and inviting poster board or trifold display. Your display must include: A. TEAM MEMBERS NAMESB. A TITLE OF THE KINGDOMC. A WRITTEN SUMMARY ABOUT THE KINGDOM (From Activity 1)D. PICTURES OF ORGANISMS IN THAT KINGDOM (From Activity 1)E. THE SCIENTIFIC & COMMON NAME OF YOUR SPECIES (From Activity 2)F. A WRITTEN SUMMARY ABOUT THAT SPECIES (From Activity 2)G. PICTURES OF THAT SPECIES (From Activity 2)
Activity 4
DISPLAY QUESTION SHEET
You will create a "scavenger Hunt " style question sheet about your kingdom and species for your classmates to answer. The answers to your questions must be found on your display. Your question sheet must include the following: A. Team members namesB. THE NAME OF YOUR KINGDOM & SPECIESC. 5-10 GOOD QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR KINGDOM & SPECIES, FROM YOUR DISPLAY no more than 5 can be true or false.D. A SEPARATE ANSWER KEY
Conclusion
Conclusion
As a conclusion to this Classification Project, we will create a Kingdom Gallery for all 4th and 5th students to tour. You are responsible for:Giving a short overview to the class from your display.Reading your classmates displays and answering a "SCAVENGER HUNT" QUESTIONSHEET based on the displays.
Last but not least ---As you team is putting the finishing touches on this project work fill in the graphic organizer I provided and to create a original KPCOFGS or SGFOCPK mnemonic device to remember the classification order.
For example King Phillip Came Over For Great Spaghetti
