Introduction

Understanding the setting of The Book Thief is vital to understanding what is happening in the story to Liesel, her family and friends, and her neighborhood. This webquest will cause you to research Nazi Germany and the events that occured during World War II. You will be asked to create a fictional newspaper based on the events that you research in the links provided, and by using information you read in the book. 

Task

Your group will design and create a fictional newspaper with events and articles that did, or could have, occurred in Nazi Germany during World War II. You will use the links provided to research events that actually occurred during World War II, but you must also use your copy of The Book Thief to include events that happened in the book. 

Your newspaper will be divided into five sections: news, sports, lifestyle, entertainment, and obituaries. You must include at least two articles for every section. You will be divided into groups of five, and each team member is responsible for one section. 

Process

1. Create a group of five people.

2. Read the Introduction and Task sections of the WebQuest.

3. Assign a subject to each member of your group.

4. Explore the links listed below to add to your research, as well as your book.

5. Collaborate and create your newspaper.

6. Create a works cited page using MLA format.

7. Submit your assignment

Newspaper Requirements: 

1. Your newspaper must be at least ten pages long. You must have at least one page for each article.

2. Your newspaper can be either typed or neatly handwritten. 

3. You must include graphics. 

4. You must include a Works Cited page listing your sources in MLA format.
