Introduction

Welcome to this webquest.
Here you will be able to use the internet to find out more about the dairy industry, and choose your own assessment task.
The major focus of this unit is on;
- What primary industries we have in our region, and recognising that we are lucky to have them (for jobs and fresh foods).
- How primary industries have changed over time e.g. tobacco has been replaced with grapes, green tea, olives etc.
- Recognising that there is a process and hard work to get foods and fibres from the farm to our homes.
- How primary industries such as dairy, that have been in our region for a long time, have changed (i.e. technology and science).
I hope you enjoy looking at this site and find a task you enjoy.
Task
You may choose one of the following assessment tasks to complete.
1. Write a thank you letter to Stuart, the dairy farmer we visited, explaining what you enjoyed and learned.
2. Prepare a 10 slide Power Point Presentation to show the class something interesting you discover on this webquest e.g. how dairy has changed and how it will look in the future, what happens to milk after it leaves the farm....
3. Write a thank you letter to James, from the ice-cream factory, explaining what you learned and suggest a new flavour.
4. Design your own farm using an A3 sheet. You can choose a farm from the past where the work was done by hand and horse power, or today's farms with machinery, or a future farm. Start with a list of all the parts you need to include (paddocks, yards, machinary etc) Include annotations and labels.
5. Design your own invented piece of farming equipment (such as Stuart did with the waste from the yards).
