Introduction
According to historical records, the first ancient Olympic Games can be traced back to 776 BC. They were dedicated to the Olympian gods and were staged on the ancient plains of Olympia. They continued for nearly 12 centuries, until Emperor Theodosius decreed in 393 A.D. that all such "pagan cults" be banned.
WHAT IS OLYMPISM?
Olympism is a philosophy of life, exalting and combining in a balanced whole the qualities of body, will and mind. Blending sport with culture and education, Olympism seeks to create a way of life based on the joy found in effort, the educational value of good example and respect for universal fundamental ethical principles.
The goal of the Olympic Movement is to contribute to building a peaceful and better world by educating youth through sport practiced without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.
We have four Global Activities:
Sport for All, Women and Sport, Education through Sport as well as Peace through Sport.
Look to the TASK section to see what there is to do for each of the Global Activities

Task
The class will be separated into six different groups and have six different activities. After completing their activities they will be responsible
1. Sport for All
Design a Sport for All programme. Create a practical application by using the theorical knowledge.
2. Women and Sport
Link important events in regards to womens' participation in the Olympics with global events regarding womens' place in the world.
3. Education through Sport
There is a commonly stated statistic that the flame passed within 10 miles of 95% of the UK population. It is your groups job to take a poll of your classmates to see if they think this is true or false. Then you have to buckle down and figure out if it true or not, and what percentage of your classmates were correct.
4. Peace through Sport
Research and answer some questions about Peace through Sport.
Process
Find your groups topic below and use the links to complete the assignments.
